![]() Eventually, they become vital allies on your quest, even if they're not in the thick of combat with you. You chat with them, undertake side quests, and exchange gifts to deepen your relationships. There, figures such as Achilles, Hypnos, and Nyx console you after your deaths, praise you for making progress, and confide in you about one another. It's not just a pit stop on the way to the next run-it's the centerpiece Hades hinges on. One of the best parts of Hades, in fact, is returning to the House of Hades time and again after you die. Your godliness justifies the endless runs through the depths of the underworld, since dying and coming back to life is par for the course in Greek myth. Tired of living under his father Hades' thumb and seeking answers about where he comes from, he sets out to escape to the world of the living, battling various undead monsters, living creatures, and mythological figures on his way out.īy clicking 'enter', you agree to GameSpot's In a roguelike such as Hades, it means playing as Zagreus, a god of rebirth. That Hades' narrative is so entwined with its combat is nothing new for the developers at Supergiant Games, who've established themselves as masters of putting your actions in sync with the stories they tell. What sets Hades apart isn't just that it's a great roguelike with the kind of repeatable depth that makes it engrossing to play for hours, but also how it uses its structure to tell an ongoing story about family, secrets, and resolution. I'd gotten so caught up in the story of my character, Zagreus, and the heroes, villains, and gods that had helped him get here that I was elated to have finally gotten him to the end of his journey. But while I was definitely a little too proud of putting together a set of abilities and perks that shredded the boss after they wrecked me just a few tries ago, that wasn't why I felt tears welling up. I'd been fighting to see this ending for hours (months, technically, if you count my time in early access), and in roguelikes, it feels better than usual to see an ending. The levels in TLOU are tiny. The first time I beat the final boss in Hades, I felt an enormous sense of relief. Most of the game takes place indoors unlike the sequel which took place in a large city that they let you traverse on a horse or boat. TLOU is a much smaller game with no open world to render. ![]() Their performance mode without ray tracing is also native 4k 60 fps, and whenever it needs to drop frames, they simply use a lower resolution using DRS. In their cross gen game, their fidelity mode with ray tracing does the same. So a 3x more powerful GPU with a much more powerful CPU only gets them double the framerate at the same resolution?Įven if we assume the PS5 GPU isnt powerful enough to do a locked native 4k 40 fps let alone 60 fps for this particular game, why didnt they add an 1800p mode? Or use DRS? Insomniac is running next gen graphics at native 4k upto 50 fps with ray tracing in Ratchet. The 1440p Uncharted 4 remaster made no sense to me because the 4.2 tflops Pro ran the game at 1440p. This game was supposed to be their trial run to get familiar with PS5 architecture and yet the game has last gen loading, no DRS support, they didnt seem to have taken advantage of the faster PS5 CPU clocks and multithreading which is probably whats holding back the GPU because the computing power to render 6x to 8x more pixels per frame should be there. The fact that this is is dipping below 35 fps at native 4k tells me that their engine is severely bottlenecked by something. Paired with an 8x more powerful CPU, it should be able to run games at native 4k around 60 fps. With the IPC gains, the PS5's 10.2 tflops GPU is roughly equivalent to a 16 tflops PS4 GPU. ![]() Games that were designed around base PS4's specs at 1080p 30 fps. I had that GPU for years and I ran a lot of last gen games at native 4k 60 fps. The PS5 is roughly equivalent to a 2080 in standard rasterization. ![]() Dropping only in heavy cutscenes and boss fights with lots of particle effects. If the PS4 can run TLOU2 at 1080p 30 fps then the 10 tflops PS5 should be able to get very close to native 4k 60 fps.
